Religious Tolerance - Islam in the Sultanate of Oman

An exhibition in 6 languages about Islamic life in a modern Arabian society touring through 10 countries in Europe and China.

Ausstellung Religioese Toleranz im Gasteig in München

In this exhibition 20 panels are presented with themes which strike a chord especially with us Europeans who are attenuated to Christianity, such as the coexistence of diverse religious communities; the practice of Islam in daily life; and the role of women in society.

Additionally the exhibition attempts to convey the special significance placed by Muslims on their holy book, the Quran. The exhibition is meant to provide the visitor with insights into the practices of Islam, and to positively portray the Sultanate of Oman, by examining contemporary practices in Omani society.

Facsimile manuscripts, and a documentary film about religious tolerance in Oman, by the Grimme Prize winner Wolfgang Ettlich, round out the exhibition.

Besides other palces the exhibition was presented until now at the Gasteig in Munich, one of the biggest cultural and educational centres in Europe, at the UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Dialogue in the Mediterranean at Tarragona, at the United Nations at Vienna and at the BAMF (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees), a department of Germany's Federal Ministry of Interior.
